WNBA playoffs 2025 are almost here after the excitement of a regular season. At last, on Tuesday, the Seattle Storm sealed the last postseason berth for what promises to be a thrilling postseason, with the elimination of the Los Angeles Sparks from contention.
The top seed Minnesota Lynx have been dominant throughout the year, even with the MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier absent. Injuries and inconsistency robbed the last year’s winners, New York Liberty, of home-court advantage and all other forms of luck.
Other playoff squads are the Atlanta Dream, Las Vegas Aces, Phoenix Mercury, Golden State Valkyries, and Indiana Fever. Winning back-to-back champions: 2022 and 2023, Aces went on a run at the end of the season, winning 14 straight games, securing a No. 2 seed. The Valkyries, an expansion team, are in the playoffs in their inaugural year, while the Fever are missing star Caitlin Clark with injuries
The postseason opens with four first-round games on Sunday, September 14, and could conclude as late as Friday, October 17, if a Game 7 of the Finals is necessary.

Changes to Postseason Format
Only the top eight teams in the 13-franchise league can make the playoffs in the WNBA. The top four seeds earn home court during the first round. For 2011, the first round with the 1-1-1 format gives the higher seed a Game 1 and a possible Game 3 at home, while the lower seed hosts Game 2. Semifinals are best of five, and for the first time ever, the WNBA Finals will be best of seven in a 2-2-1-1-1 configuration. Last year, the finals were stretched to Game 5, where the New York Liberty triumphed over the Minnesota Lynx.
